Cranberry Isles School Committee Meeting
at the Islesford Neighborhood House
Tuesday, November 18, 2014
8:30 am


Attendance: Kelly Sanborn, Amy Palmer, Howard Colter, Heather Webster, and Cari Alley.
Others in attendance: Ingrid Gaither and Wyatt Alley

I. Call to Order Meeting called to order at 8:35 am

II. Approval of the Voucher

III. Review and Approval of Minutes 10/15/14, 10/16/14, and 11/10/14.
Kelly Sanborn moves to accept the minutes as written. Amy Palmer seconds. All in favor.

IV. Reports and Updates:
● Principal’s Report: On File Some Highlights included:
- Thanksgiving Break is one week this year.
- School Pictures will be taken on 11/19. We discussed possible make-up day with
- December 12 will be an Early Release day.
- December 22-Jan 2 will be Winter Break
- Eero Hedefine came out to look at drainage issue near the basketball court at
the Ashley Bryan School.
- Jim Amuso will be coming up with estimate for refinishing the floors and inside
painting at the Ashley Bryan School.
- The back room at the ABS will be getting a makeover due to the increase
amount of students at the school.
- Curriculum update-the teachers are meeting with other professional.

● Longfellow Report
Update of drainage at the ABS- Eero Hedefine submitted a report on what should be
worked on. Heather was going to email it to us all for reading. It will be on file. We
discussed having Jim Amuso trying to work on the drainage issue before winter really hits.

Update on Workshop with Sealander Architects on 11/10/14: We are all pleased with the work, progress and commutation thus far. Howard and Mike removed the bell from the attic at the Longfellow school. We discussed that we are pleased with the safety concerns that have been discussed with Sealander. Discussion with Ingrid Gaither as Librarian for the GCI Library about the changes to the library due to code. The window near the desk will be lowered. The door will be replaced with fire rate solid door. We also discussed the sprinklers and the cost being the libraries reasonability if they chose to proceed in that direction.

We all expressed how the Sealanders are excellent communicators.

V. Discussion Items:
Preliminary FY ’16 Budget: Howard explained the existing budget to us. Jan. 16, 2014 our budget is due to the Town Office.

VI. Other Business:
Generator: It had been voiced by concerned parents that due to the recent power outage that it would be beneficial for the ABS to have a generator. Heather had spoken to the Amuso’s regarding a generator for the ABS.

Jim Amuso told Heather it would be wise to have one for the upkeep of the building. Heather will look into the budget to see if we have any money available to purchase a generator for this current winter. We discussed talking to Sealander to ask about wiring the Longfellow School for a generator hook-up as well.

Dedicated School Boat: We opened the discussion for having a dedicated school boat that would be for transporting children as well as staff for the Cranberry Isles School System. We looked at the current budget line for transportation. We would like to continue this conversation and look into options. We all feel that safety has become a factor as well as reliability with the current system in place. We discussed having a special public discussion about the matter. Heather will look into cost. Howard suggested a Request for Proposal. We would like this items to be on agendas to keep the discussion open.

Next meeting set for December 15, 2014 on GCI at Longfellow
