III. Islesford Dock Extension Updates
Paul Pottle of Fay, Spofford & Thorndike has submitted a revised plan of option 2 for the Harbor Committee to review. The end of the dock must be able to be closed in during the winter season. Perhaps a door could be added to the shelter for access. Some concern is voiced over whether the door would stay shut during high wind conditions. Another concern is if the pilings where the float meets the dock would be strong enough to resist damage when the float hits up against it. It is suggested to use steel pilings filled with concrete in this section. It may be necessary to use steel framed floats which would be an added expense to replace the current floats. Another concern is how to keep the gangway from stay in place when it shifts from side to side. Would pilings work on the outside of the gangway, (co-op side of dock)? Much concern is voiced over the breakwater design under the newly proposed extension. A solid type of breakwater is desired to cut down on surf. Solid breakwaters are expensive and may be hard to get permitting for. If the same design was used on the extension that is currently used on the existing dock, it would be better but not perfect. Would this also be hard to get permits for?
Bill Dowling moves to have James Fortune pass on the comments from the Harbor Committee to Paul Pottle. Nick Hadlock seconds the motion. All in favor. Motion passes.
