II. Review / Approval Previous Meeting Minutes, July 02, 2015
William Dowling moves to approve the July 02, 2015 Harbor Committee meeting minutes as written. Richard Howland seconds the motion. All in favor. Motion passes.
III. Islesford Dock Extension Updates
The Harbor Committee has received three new options from Paul Pottle of Fay, Spofford and Thorndike, for the Islesford Pier extension. These options were developed by Mr. Pottle following Harbor Committee recommendations at their July 02, 2015 meeting. One Harbor Committee suggestion that was not included in today’s option plans was for a solid breakwater underneath the pier. This was not included due to permitting difficulties for such a breakwater. The Harbor Committee chose option #2, but still has further suggestions for safety and access, as well as navigation. One suggestion at today’s meeting is to relocate the gangway on the west side, (co-op side of pier) and to extend the gangway straight out, as opposed to dog legged and on the east side (as shown in option 2). A majority of the Harbor Committee members still feel that a winter float at the Town Dock at Islesford is not advised. The Harbor Committee further recommends that water depths be checked for all potential placements of floats, including skiff floats. Paul Pottle will do an additional sketch and send it to James Fortune, for future review of by the Harbor Committee. All copies of the proposed sketches may be viewed at the Town Office.
IV. Moving of Mooring Update, Islesford: Bruce Fernald
Aaron Gray and Dan Fernald moorings have been moved slightly to allow for better navigation at the Islesford Town Dock. Further shortening of the pennant is still recommended.
V. Iselsford Dock
No further information at this time.
VI. Great Cranberry Island Dock
Three residents have requested that a hoist be installed at the Great Cranberry Island Dock. Last year the Harbor Committee recommended that the Town budget for two hoists, one at Islesford and one at Great Cranberry Island. The Harbor Committee recommends budgeting for the hoists in 2016. It is mentioned that the Town of Bar Harbor has a two motor system; one for use and one for spare in the event of mechanical issues. Maintenance should also be considered for budgeting purposes.
VII. Sutton Island Dock
Nothing at this time.
VIII. Manset Dock
Dennis Dever reports that equipment is being put away for the winter season.
IX. Other Business
• Selectman Florence Joy Sprague suggests that the Town of Cranberry Isles consider hiring a full time Harbormaster.
X. Adjournment: 5:47 P.M.
Bill Dowling moves to adjourn the meeting. Ted Spurling seconds the motion. All in favor. Motion passes.
