  8. New Business:
  9. a. 501 (c)3 Creation
Katelyn describes the Cranberry Isles Fire & Rescue Auxiliary to the IVFD. This Auxiliary would allow all three emergency service organizations within the Town to receive tax deductible donations. The board would consist of a collection of members from all three organizations. The group would receive donations on behalf of the rescue groups and then distribute funds based on need from each group. Donors can specify how they would like the donations to be spent. However, just like with every nonprofit, the group will have discretion over the funds. Donors can still donate to each organization individually, however, those donations will not be tax exempt.
David Thomas makes a motion to move forward with creating the Cranberry Isles Fire & Rescue Auxiliary. Bruce Fernald seconds the motion. Vote: Yes, Unanimous. Motion Passes.
Katelyn also needs a volunteer to act as President of the group. David Thomas volunteers to take on that role.
    b. Fail Safe Ladder & Hose Testing Quote
Katelyn reached out to Fail Safe Testing of New Jersey for a quote on providing annual hose and ladder testing for the department.
Fail Safe quoted the department at $583 to provide this service. This includes charging $0.32 per foot to test fire hose and $45.00 to test each ladder.
David Thomas moves to accept the quote for hose and ladder testing from Fail Safe Testing. Richard Howland seconds the motion. Vote: Yes, Unanimous. Motion Passes.
    c. Hepatitis B Shots & Waivers
Katelyn explains further the Exposure Control Plan for the IVFD.
The plan states that collateral responders are eligible to receive Hepatitis B shots prior to responding to calls.
The plan states that non-collateral responders can receive the shots after an exposure.
Collateral responders are those who are expected to come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials. For example, an EMT who is also a firefighter, or anyone who has graduated from a local fire academy.
Non-Collateral responders are those who are not expected to come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials as a part of their routine work with the department. However, given the nature of emergency response they may be exposed and can receive the shot series after an exposure.
Katelyn is to follow-up with all collateral responders listed in the program on their decision to receive the shot series or decline with a waiver.
