  4. New Business
  5. a. Connect Me Grant Status
The Town of Cranberry Isles did not receive the Connect Me infrastructure grant that was applied for.
The grant application was in on time and it was recommended to the grant board for funding, but was ultimately not chosen. Three other small rural towns were chosen for the grant.
Much discussion takes place surrounding the lack of grant funding.
Tom Powell suggest that the town continue to work with Redzone and Axiom to develop our own concrete figures for what it would cost to upgrade Redzone’s service to the Cranberry Isles.
Redzone is not interested in providing capital for upgrades. They want the town to fund any infrastructure upgrades.
The grant would have been helpful as it would have helped the town to flush out a who to partner with moving forward for broadband internet. The grant money would have been used for planning infrastructure upgrades and it would have helped the town to find the most cost effective and reliable way to provide internet to the Town of Cranberry Isles. Moving forward this information could be used to entice companies to bring broadband internet to the community as well as using the information to receive grant funds for infrastructure upgrades.
The Broadband working group will continue to move forward despite not receiving the grant funding.
The group will continue to work with Redzone and other internet providers and try to entice them to bring money and infrastructure to the Cranberry Isles.
