Cranberry Isles School Board
Minutes of 16 December 2008

I. Meeting called to order by chairperson Kate Chaplin at 1:30 P.M. at the Union
98 Office, MDIHS. Present: Board members Kate Chaplin, Barbara Meyers
and Ted Spurling; Principal Carol MacRae; Superintendent Rob Liebow.
II. Voucher was approved and signed. Motion: Kate; Second: Ted; vote: yes, unanimously
III. Discussion Item: Mold Investigation Report by Riverside Lane Corporation (Tim Henderson). The mold spore count is extremely high in the basement, in bathroom of teacher’s apartment, and in teachers’ office (See report). The board contacted Mr. Henderson and held a teleconference with him during the meeting. He recommends de-contaminating the affected areas in order of priority: 1) Teacher’s apartment bathroom, 2) Basement, 3) Teachers’ Office.
Mr. Henderson could perform the mold-removal service during the Christmas break (dismantle and removal only; construction not included) for approximately $20,000 to $25,000. This would include dismantle/mold removal of shower area in the apartment; wallboard, etc. in basement; and
carpet in teachers’ office. The board agreed that it is important to perform this soon and with the building unoccupied, for the safety of students and faculty,
and to limit liability exposure. Funding may depend on the authority of the Selectmen to borrow. The board agreed to address the problem and Principal Carol MacRae to pursue this, in the following order of priority because of
exposure to students and faculty: Basement and Teachers’ Office now; then apartment at a later date. Carol to ask the teachers about removing unwanted items, books, etc, from basement and will order the rental of dumpsters.
Motion: Ted; second: Kate; vote: yes, unanimously.
IV. Adjournment: 3:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Theodore L. Spurling, Jr.
