Cranberry Isles School Department
Minutes for October 9, 2007
Meeting was called to order at 1:35 p.m.

Present: Kate Chaplin, Barbara Meyers, Carol MacRae, Lindsay Eysnogle, and Rob Liebow (via PolyCom)
• Voucher approved and signed
• B. Meyers moved to approve minutes from the meeting on Aug. 28 (approved)
• School Consolidation Reports: “Up/Down” vote by the people of our town on our consolidation plan more likely to come about in June, rather than January 2008 as originally thought. Our state legislators have assured us that the 2 mil
spending requirement, which would prohibit Cranberry Isles from being part of a new consolidated unit unless we double our education budget, will be resolved by one of several methods. Costs of attending RPC meetings can be billed to the state.
• Lindsay Eysnogle gave an update on plans and budget for the school trip to Quebec. The students have raised $1,000 with a dance, Fun Run, and sales of cotton candy. $1,000 is also expected from a Target Corporation Grant, specifically for field trips. There was also a discussion of matching the gender of chaperones and students in making arrangements for hotel rooms. Suitable combinations of parents and students were arrived at. The need for passports due to new regulations is still ambiguous, but students are getting them in any event.
• Informative report from the Principal received and discussed (attached).
• Proposal to increase the Principal’s compensation from $18,675 to $21,575 was approved. Additional compensation of $100 for each administrative meeting, was also agreed upon: to be covered by REAP money.
• The board signed a lease for the Teacher’s Apartment with the amendment that there shall be no smoking in the apartment.
• Barbara Meyers informed the board that the Cranberry Island Historical Society has requested the continued use of two wooden cabinets belonging to the Longfellow School. The cabinets would be removed to the new museum building. The board agreed, and Barbara will ask them to provide us with a letter documenting the loan of the cabinets.
• The board instated a policy requiring all students to wear a PFD when commuting by boat to and from school.
• A plan for the aid and supervision of a commuting kindergarten student was discussed and approved. Gail Grandgent will accompany her on the boat to and from Great Cranberry on Tuesdays through Fridays, as well as at lunch and after school until boat time. Carol MacRae will be with her for those times on Mondays. Cari Alley will transport commuting students to and from the dock in inclement weather for payment of $10 per trip.
• The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm
