Cranberry Isles School Board
Minutes of 27 May 2009

I. Meeting called to order by chairperson Kate Chaplin at 3:35 P.M. at the Islesford
School.
Present: Board members Kate Chaplin and Ted Spurling; Principal Carol MacRae.
Present via speaker phone at Union 98 Office: Board member Barbara Meyers and Superintendent Rob Liebow.
II.Voucher was reviewed and signed by Kate and Ted.
III. Minutes of 4/29/2009 were approved (Motion: Kate; Second: Ted; Vote: yes, unanimously).
IV. Principal’s Report (See separate sheet): Carol discussed several items:
A. Ursula Hanson to be guidance counselor.
B. Carly Imhoff, COA student, to be student teacher for 15 weeks in fall 2009.
C. Shira Singer is a recipient of the Maine Arts Teachers Fellowship Program.
D. Donna Isaacs has a proposal for the Maine Community Foundation that will
further development of Critical Friends Group.
V. Discussion Item: Summer Projects:
A. Furnace zoning, Longfellow School.
B. Shingling, Islesford School.
C. Playground repair and landscaping, Islesford. Perimeter around equipment, wood
chips to be added.
D. Well-head cover: Agreed to place bench or table to cover well.
VI. Action Items:
A. Kate moved that the Superintendent apply for and receive Federal and State funds. Second by Ted. Vote: yes, unanimously.
B. Dates set for summer meetings:
1. Tuesday, June 23, 3:00 P.M., tentatively (if needed).
2. July: none
3. Wednesday, August 19, 2:00 P.M.
VII. Future Agenda Items:
A. Summer maintenance.
B. An adult to be designated to walk a student to the afternoon ferry, plus Friday mornings. Carol to inquire about volunteers.
VIII. Other Business:
A. Fuel at Longfellow School: How much to contribute to GCI Library?
Approximately $4000 currently in account for fuel. Kate to call Ruth Westphal about amount. Kate moved to authorize up to $2500 for fuel for GCI Library. Ted seconded. Vote: Yes, unan.
B. Bouquets for graduation: Kate to call florist.
C. Rooms to be cleared/cleaned at end of year.
D. Doors to be locked; board members to receive new keys.
E. Carol to ask Jay Peruzzi (Atom Electric) if hard-wired smoke alarms have been installed between floors at the Islesford School and apartment.
F. The no-smoking rule on ferry boats has been OK’d by the ferry service.
IX. Adjournment: 4:22 P.M. Motion: Kate; Second: Ted; Vote: Yes, unan.
