EMS APPRECIATION LETTER

March 12, 2013

To: The Cranberry Isles Board of Selectmen

On Sunday, February 10th I was accidentally bumped and fell on the Cranberry Road. My left hip was fractured.
Within a short time many islanders were on hand to help and offer me support.
First Responder, Karin Whitney brought a warm blanket and wrapped me up to preserve my body heat.
Within a few minutes Mark Alley and Scott Bracy brought our ambulance to the site of my fall and then a group of EMT’s from Islesford were on hand.
The EMT’s administered competent and gentle care as they transferred me into a wheelchair and then into the ambulance.
As two strong young men carried me in the wheelchair down our dock stairs I closed my eyes. When I opened them we were safely aboard Richard Howland’s lobster boat and were soon safely across the water when I was delivered to the competent care of Margaret Blank, Paul Fernald, and Cissy Leonardi in Northeast Harbor. They, in turn, took me to MDI Hospital where I excellent surgical and nursing care.
I know EMT’s Katelyn Damon and Emily Wright were with the young male EMT’s, but cannot tell you their names.
But, I do want to express my appreciation for their professional care. We are so fortunate they have committed to taking the training and the commitment of their time to do this volunteer work in our town.

Sincerely,
Ruth Westphal
