Call to Order: 3:01 p.m. by Deputy Town Clerk Nanette Hadlock.
Article 1. To elect by ballot a moderator to preside at said meeting.
Barbara Stainton moves to nominate Hugh Dwelley. Dan Lief seconds the motion.
(5-0) Hugh Dwelley
Dedimus Justice Richard Beal swears Hugh Dwelley into office as moderator for this meeting.
Article 2. To see if the voters of the Town of Cranberry Isles will approve use of the Maine Municipal Association’s recommended Maine Moderator’s Manual “Rules of Procedures” for the conduct of this Town Meeting.
Richard Beal moves to approve. Barbara Stainton seconds the motion.
Article 3. To see if the voters of the Town of Cranberry Isles will approve opening the floor of this Town Meeting to all non-registered citizens for the purpose of discussion only on each of the following articles of this 2008-B Warrant.
Barbara Stainton moves to approve. Richard Beal seconds the motion.
(31-0) Motion passes.
Article 4. To determine which course of action the voters of the Town of Cranberry Isles will approve for execution by the Board of Selectmen regarding the physical location and construction of the new municipal garage/Fire House on Little Cranberry Island. Possible options are, but not limited, to:
a. Move the location of the new building to a position on the same site where it no longer would be over the dump/landfill area. The Selectmen will work with neighbors and the broader community in an effort to ensure the building and its location meet the needs of abutters and the Town.
b. Pursue planning and development of an alternate site which would meet the requirements for this municipal garage/Fire House. Options include moving the site to the Islesford town gravel pit or another piece of property to be acquired by the Town.
Richard Beal votes to move the article. Barbara Stainton seconds the motion.
Courtney Chaplin moves to vote by written ballot. Chris Hathaway seconds the motion.
Option a. gets fourteen (14) votes; Option b. gets thirty-two (32) votes.
Option b. passes.
Adjournment: 4:38 P.M.
Kate Fernald moves to adjourn the meeting. Malcolm Donald seconds the motion.
